About me

self-photoMy name is Liang Hong. I am a postdoctoral associate in the Department of Materials Science and Nanoengineering at Rice University, working with Professor Ming Tang on electrochemically driven phase transformation in energy storage compounds.

I received my Bachelor and Master degree (Materials Science and Engineering) from Tianjin University in 2003 and 2006, respectively. From there, I recognized my passion for science, which resulted two important papers on biocomposite materials in 2006. After that, I started my PhD study (Mechanical Engineering) on nanoferroelectric domain structures and distributions of defects in ferroelectrics in the University of Hong Kong. Under the guidance of my advisor, Professor Ai-Kah Soh, I got interested in exploring physical problems of functional materials by using modern mathematical and computational capabilities. In December 2010, I was awarded PhD degree by the University of Hong Kong. Driven by the curiosity to advanced techniques and understandings on phase transformation kinetics, I joined Professor Long-Qing Chen‘s group and worked on phase transformations in superlattice, relaxor thin film and electrodes of solid oxide fuel cell and Li-ion batteries for three years. In December 2014, I came to Rice University to join my family in Houston. More importantly, Professor Ming Tang‘s expertise on phase transformation in electrochemical system and strong experiences in high performance computation attracts me to expand my computational experiences.

My favorite soccer team is Barcelona. I am a fan of Messi. I enjoy my running time in the afternoon around the beautiful Rice campus. I have great fun on doing research and living with my family in Houston.
